Beneteau Charter - Oceanis 58 - Queen Axiera

Beneteau Oceanis 58 – Queen Axiera,

This summer, I got the opportunity to sail this beautiful Beneteau Oceanis 58 - Queen Axiera - owner version boat available for charter in Croatia. I have to admit, I was expecting the boat to be special, but I didn't know what to expect from sailing given its dimensions and weight.

The first day as a skipper I take a boat to Baotic Marina in Seget Donji near Trogir, Croatia. I came a little earlier to inspect the boat before the guests arrive, to get acquainted with the stores, equipment, systems, and it is immediately apparent at first glance that this is no ordinary charter boat but something completely different and special. The Queen Axiera is a purebred luxury cruiser built to take all the seas of the world and definitely one of the few ships of this quality to be available in charter.

Three comfortable and luxurious cabins each with its own toilet and shower, air-conditioned rooms and lounge, all dressed in genuine leather, real wood, lots of extras that completely change the experience as such. Premium sound system, lighting, icemaker, coffee machine, toys for water sports, two SUP's, snorkeling equipment, underwater lighting, TV, WiFi Internet, hydraulic gangway, anchor windlass and el. winches for trimming sails, Genoa roll system also electrical, superb Ultra Marine anchor with 70m heavy chain and many other details that makes this boat a unique mono-hull available for charter in Croatia.

All this is worth mentioning, the list is impressive, but as a sailor I was most impressed with the mast and the surface of the sails, so I could not get a smile off my face while welcoming my dear guests, a wonderful family from Slovakia with friends. I set the boat, we brought food, belongings and sailed and it immediately to the island of Vis

We chose Vis as a destination for the first day because there was a lot of Tramontana about 25 knots (N-NW) stable without a lot of gusts beam reach and one 1.5 m waves from the side as well, which all seemed like ideal conditions for me to try this beautiful boat and to use this same conditions to get away from the charter fleet on the first day, since for most Vis island is too far away from the starting ports on shore for the first charter day. This will bring us an advantage day in the rest of the week, so we avoided a bit of a crowd, which is really not unusual at the peak of the season in Croatia.

We started around 14:00 pm and as soon as we moved away from the islands around Maslinica on the island of Šolta and set a course for the island of Vis, I opened all the sails, began to catch the pressure and then the magic began... the ship leaned over and forcefully started moving to island Vis breaking the waves on the way with incredible ease, without watering the deck and I must say that I think the performance was better than on most ships this size that I drove through the years of my career in the charter. The speeds we were achieving were steadily over 10 knots and also capturing 12 knots of SOG on GPS. I couldn't hide the excitement, and the guests couldn't hide the feelings of insecurity and excitement. As we left behind few miles, everyone on the boat just relaxed and began to feel more comfortable, and it was an opportunity to do more trimming on sail, so I let steering to my guest Radek and he immediately figured out what to do and soon he was no longer able to get off the helm - it all says about the ease of managing this beauty.

The sense of strength and power while sailing at over twenty knots of wind under full sail makes it clear that for her it was nothing and that is built for heavy duty and for sailing high seas.

The rest of the week was a stable weather, so we used all the magic of the boat for pleasure sailing and in complete luxury we visited the islands of central Dalmatia - Budikovac, Lastovo, Badija, Korčula, Pelješac peninsula and further the islands Šćedro, Hvar, Drvenik and Šolta…

An unbelievably good week on a beautiful sailboat that, like many others, ended too soon.
