4 nm southwest form the town Komiža, lies small hilly island Biševo. On an area of 6 square kilometers of the island stands out fields of vines, thick pine forest and bushes and old stone houses with occasional permanent inhabitant.

Island Biševo was inhabited in the distant past. Today the island has 5-6 permanent residents, and in summer on the island reside about 20 people. Small population of Biševo is mainly engaged in fishing, viticulture and tourism. The only larger village on the island is Polje and of other villages there are Porat, Mezuporat, Salbunara, Vela Gora and Potok. Polje was once the school, but today only remain as a time saver church of St. Sylvester from the 11th century.

This unique and unusual island is known for the Blue Cave. Blue cave is located on the north side of the island. The external light penetrates the cave through a wide underwater opening in a rock, reflects to the white floor of the cave and bathes the grotto in beautiful blue light. In addition to the Blue Cave, also is attractive Medvidina cave on the southeast side of the island. The cave is 160 m long, its entrance is a narrow, almost thirty meters high gap in the cliff. Tight and low main hall of the cave Medvidina was once monk seals residence, the most endangered mammal species in the world.

Although the coasts of Biševo are mostly steep and rugged, two beautiful bays serves for swimming and anchoring, Porat and Salbunara. Porat is a sandy bay on the northwest part of the island. A beautiful sandy beach is full of tourists in season, both those who reside on Biševo, and those who came on trip with tourist boat from Komiža. Porat bay is daily visited by a lerge number of sailors with their yachts and sailboats. In Porat is a bar and two fish restaurants. Due to its attractiveness and clear sea, the bay Porat is one of the most beautiful bays in the world. Salbunara is a village with a few fishing houses and same name bay on the southwest coast of the island. Although tourist offer is not meaningful as in Porat, it will win you with tameness and purity.

Modest tourist offer and accommodation facilities are not a reason you don’t visit Biševo. Indeed, in summer times Biševo is full of tourists with a view to find true peace and happiness.

We wish you good sailing and calm seas...
