South of the Split, in the heart of Dalmatia, is placed one of the most beautiful and the most famous Croatian island, island of Brač. Brač is the largest Dalmatian island and the third largest island in the Adriatic. The pleasant Mediterranean climate, excellent transit location, diverse and interesting nature, rich flora and fauna, crystal clear sea, heavenly bays and beaches, valuable cultural and historical heritage, excellent gastronomy, developed nightlife, rich tourist offer and hospitality of locals - are trumps which makes Brač one of the most popular and most attractive Mediterranean islands.

Brač is an island of long and turbulent history. Archaeological research has shown that the island was inhabited in the Paleolithic, and was later inhabited by the Illyrians, Greeks and Romans. From historical sites and facilities should be emphasized the Blaca Hermitage on the south side of the island, hermit residence from the 16th century. Origin of the name of island Brač is not scientifically determined, but it is believed to have originated from the ancient Illyrian word brentos - deer, animal of its prehistoric inhabitants. Brač residents have always been known as skilled fishermen, seafarers and merchants, known around the world. Today, the population of the island is mainly engaged in tourism, fishing and processing of fish, olive growing and viticulture. Brač today has over 500,000 olive trees, and Brač olive oil is one of the most prized in the world.

Island Brač has about 14,400 inhabitants, of which one-fifth of them live in the only town on the island, the town Supetar. Supetar is the biggest settlement on the island, located on the north side, overlooking the city of Split. Supetar is tourist and administrative center of the island. The first written mention of Supetar dates from 1423, and is named after St. Peter. Supetar is characterized by old stone houses and streets, valuable cultural heritage from the Roman era and rich gastronomic and accommodation offer. In Supetar there are several beautiful sandy and pebble beaches. Supetar port offers berths for 10 boats larger than 16m and 3 for boats larger than 25m. All berths are secured with moorings and have connections for electricity and water supply. Recently is built a new harbor in part Vlačica with a capacity of 40 berths.

Besides the town of Supetar, from the other larger settlements stands out Bol, Postira, Pučišća, Milna, Bol, Nerežišća and Sumartin. Bol is a town and municipality on the south side of the island at the foot of Vidova gora - the island's highest peak (778m), the oldest place on the island. Bol was first mentioned in 1184 in a document Povaljska listina. Bol has about 1,600 inhabitants who are mainly engaged in tourism and hospitality industry. The town also has several restaurants, taverns, cafes, shops, souvenir shops, post office ... The thing that Bol is the most famous for is divine pebble beach Zlatni rat, one of the most beautiful beaches on the Adriatic.

On the northern side of the island, in a deep bay, is the village Pučišća. The name comes from the Latin word puteus - well, which means a sources with brackish water for livestock. The soul of Pučišća, as well as the entire island of Brač, is the famous Brač stone extracted from the Brač quarries. Of Brač stone were built some of the world's most famous buildings, such as Diocletian's Palace and the White House in Washington. Between Pučišća and Postira there are several picturesque bays and beaches that provide a quiet and relaxing vacation. 15 km west of Pučišća there is a village of Postira. Postira is known as the birthplace of the famous Croatian writer and politician Vladimir Nazor. Near Postira lies Lovrečina Bay, known for its large sandy beach.

On the western part of the Brač is a tourist resort Milna, situated in a deep bay that overlooks on the Split doors. Milna is considered to be the most beautiful and most protected Brač's harbors, and there are two marinas; ACI marina Milna and nautical center of Milna. Milna has a long and nice coastline, along which are dotted stone houses.

The island of Brač is one of the transport linked islands in the Adriatic. In the vicinity of Bol is Brač airport which seasonal connects the island with the city of Zagreb and few European destinations. Towards island of Brač daily rides two ferry lines, from Split to Supetar and from Makarska to village Sumartin on the eastern side of the island.
