Nautic destination - Island Molat - Sail Croatia

Molat is located on the northern part of Zadar archipelago, between the islands Ist on the north and Sestrunj from the south. As it has always been known for production of honey, the name of the island of Molat comes from the Latin word mellitus - honey. Molat is mostly covered with bushes and trees of Mediterranean pine.

Numerous islands of Zadar archipelago are one of the most attractive areas in the Adriatic Sea, it is hard to isolate which one is more beautiful, but especially is notable island Molat. Molat is located on the northern part of Zadar archipelago, between the islands Ist on the north and Sestrunj from the south. As it has always been known for production of honey, the name of the island of Molat comes from the Latin word mellitus - honey. Molat is mostly covered with bushes and trees of Mediterranean pine.

Molat is an island of rich and turbulent history. Molat is inhabited since the 7th century, but on the island were found the remains of flint objects from the Paleolithic. This small island has marked times of serfdom, repression, violence and looting by the Venetians and Turks. Today the island Molat has about two hundred inhabitants who are mainly engaged in agriculture, sheep farming, fishing and tourism. On the island there are three villages: Molat, Brgulje and Zapuntel.

Molat is the main place on the island located on the southern part. This picturesque place has a few catering establishments, shops, a bakery and even a museum. It is interesting that in Molat is also library that has more members than residents, with more than 6600 various books. Place is dominated by beach Jazi, one of the most beautiful on the island. Lučina port has 36 berths with water and electricity, and in it daily arrive ferry from Zadar.

On the western coast of central part of island Molat is beautiful Brgulje bay. Bay provides secure protection from strong bora and around the small islet Brgulje are often anchored many sailing boats, yachts and catamarans. In the middle of bay is village Burgulje. Brgulje consists a new part built on coast and old part in inland. Brgulje is known for its beautiful beach Pržine. In Brgulje daily arrive catamaran from Zadar.

The village Zapuntel lies in the interior on the north side of the island. Zapuntel is a quiet little fishing village, surrounded by lush island vegetation. In Zapuntel is Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary from the 15th century. Port Zapuntel provides a safe berth and protection from strong winds.
