When it comes time for summer vacation, most owners decide to take their pets with them as equal family members. If you are arriving from abroad, for crossing the Croatian border you must have a valid passport for the pet and the necessary veterinary documentation. But when we talk about sailing, tourists commonly ask can they bring their pets on a sailing holiday? The answer is mostly affirmative and pets are more than welcome on board.

The vast majority of Croatian marinas and charter agency allows pets are on the board, but before boat rental and planning of sailing vacation, it would be good to check if the charter agency will surely allow you to bring your pet abroad. You must be aware of the fact that the charter agencies generally charge a residence of your pet on the board, usually in a way that you will need to pay double final cleaning and additional fee for pets.

The most common pets that tourists takes with them on sailing vacations are cats and dogs. How the pets will probably spend most of their time sniffing and playing on the deck, we recommend you to set up safety net around the boat’s rail. Also, store from the deck all objects that could inadvertently hurt your pet. Be sure to keep in mind that pets, especially dogs, are sensitive to high temperatures and sea-sick just like people, in fact there are significantly more sensitive than us. Therefore it is essential to ensure for your pets small corner below deck for the occasional rest, and enough water for refreshment. Remember that pets need to spend certain time on mainland, therefore, anchor few times a day in a secluded bay or beach allowed for pets.

Traveling with pets is not always easy, but make sure you do everything you can to afford a pleasant and relaxing summer vacation for you and your pet on some gorgeous sailboat, catamaran or motor yacht.
