There's a saying that reads - ‘’ to sail is necessary; to live is not ‘’, or as our friends from PIJK Hijena says ‘’ to sail isn’t necessary, but is cool ‘’. Sailing is the only sport which combines vacation, entertainment, travel, meeting new people, places and traditions, improves health and physical activity and maximize the usefulness of acquired knowledge and skills which can be helpful in everyday life.

Today, we all live in a busy world, overworked and surrounded by various stressful situations that increasingly produce anxiety and less and less joy of life, due to which we have no time for ourselves and cause of which we lose touch with what real life values. Most people in the rare moments when they catch a little bit of free time spend that time indoor lying down in front of TV, surfing the Internet or something.

Why you don’t change it? Refresh your life, make it interesting and relaxing no matter how your life been stressful and schedule crowded. Sailing is right thing for you, sport that will activate you, entertain and make you feel better. In the world, sailing has become a certain trend and increasingly popular form of summer vacation, because nothing can refresh a man and fulfill than pleasure of feeling the wind in hair, sea air in the lungs and enjoying on beautiful islands and beaches.

Sailing school - which school to choose (advantages / disadvantages)?

In Croatia, there are several sailing schools which pretty much offer the same or similar forms of courses, but with different prices, terms and benefits. We will mention you a few important factors to which you need to pay attention when choosing a sailing school.

First, you need to pay attention on the prices of sailing schools and what is included in it. In all schools, sailing courses prices usually includes boat rental, skipper, technical literature or materials, VAT and often costs like the cost of fuel, cost of berths, tourist tax, etc. remain hidden. A large number of sailing schools does not include accommodation in the price, which can significantly increase costs, especially in season when the prices of accommodation facilities along the coast are quite high.

Also, make sure that sailing schools offer a combination of theoretical and practical part. Like in the school, theory is essential for easier understanding of sailing matter and creating quality bases for implementation of acquired knowledge and skills in practice. Sailing schools should provide for participants adequate sailing learning materials.

Furthermore, get informed about boats used in sailing schools. It is important that boat is functional and in good condition to provide maximum stability, safety and performances. Some sailing schools do not have own boats so they use rented boats which also affects the price of courses. Knowledge and expertise of skipper guarantee of the quality and safety of the course. Professional and certified skippers will give you ultimate experience and with their knowledge and skills enable you for managing the boat.

One of the main indicators of quality and efficiency of the sailing school is a certain certificate which school has. If individual school is accredited by a recognized sailing organization or association, means that it operates according to the rules and standards of the organization under whose auspices is. Thus each participant after successful completion of the course receives a well-deserved certificate as proof of acquired level of sailing knowledge and skills in school.

Good guide in choosing of sailing school can be testimonials, recommendations and reviews. Inform yourself about recommendations and experiences, if the reviews are positive you are likely to not make a mistake in choice.

After choosing of sailing school, next step is choosing the sailing course, and it can pose a real challenge. Before choosing a sailing course, reexamine your current sailing knowledge, what is your physical condition, what you want to achieve (recreational or professional sailing), and the amount of free time.

If you've never sailed, you need a course that will introduce you to the basics of sailing and enrich with fundamental knowledges and skills, and open you some new horizons that will fulfill your life. Our basic sailing course (Keelboat 1) is ideal for beginners, women, men, parents with children, young adventurers (16+ years old with parental permission),... for all those who always dream of sailing and had no chance to learn. Participants will also learn about organization of life on board and will have opportunity to reveal their culinary abilities. Weekend courses are designed for those who already possess a certain sailing knowledge and skills which they would a little bit refresh or upgrade. Two completed weekend course can replace seven-day sailing course and thereby participants also can earn a certain certificate.

After acquired basic sailing knowledges and skills, consider a little and ask yourself how far you want to go with sailing. Most of beginners sailing primarily consider as a hobby, but for some sailing very quickly becomes a way of life. Advanced Course is intended for lovers of sea and life on board, i.e. those who want to learn more and ultimately sail independently. An advanced course consists of two parts: advanced cruise Yacht level 2 (skipper course) and Advanced Sailing Keelboat 2. Yacht level 2 is a combination of 3-day sailing on our club boat Platu 25 and 4-day and night sailing on a large sailboat. On this course you will learn how to maneuver larger boats in harbors and marinas, practice "to park the boat", anchoring in different conditions, sailing at night with navigation and many other skills. In advanced sailing particular emphasis is on improving naval skills, fast sailing, trimming, sailing downwind with a spinnaker, maintenance of the boat and others.

We wish you calm seas and at least two inches of sea below the keel.
