For many people, at the mention of island Šolta, main association is famous verse '' S ponistre se vidi Šolta ''; where from some Split ponistra (window) is visible nearby island of Šolta. Šolta is a picturesque Dalmatian island located near the town of Split, west of the island of Brač. Šolta is an island known for its rich flora and fauna, crystal clear sea, beautiful beaches and bays, many family estates, excellent gastronomic offer and in many other ways.

Name of island Šolta comes from the Greek word Olynthia, which means '' unripe fig ''. Traces of colonization on the island Šolta date back to the Neolithic period, as evidenced by the remains found on several island locations. Also, on the island have been found remains from ancient and Illyrian periods. From the 7th century Šolta is part of the Split commune.

The island of Šolta has eight villages, of which the largest is Grohote. Grohote is the largest and oldest village situated in inland, also the administrative and economic center of the island Šolta. Grohote is characterized by narrow and irregular cobbled streets which gives a special charm of this village. In Grohote there are several cafes, shops, taverns, money exchange, post office and several major public buildings. Other small villages in inland are Donje Selo, Gornje Selo and Central Selo.

On the coasts of Šolta are four settlements, Stomorska, Nečujam, Rogač and Maslinica. Rogač is a village and main Šolta’s port, located on the northern side of the island. Rogač is daily connected ferry line from Split. Thanks to excellent transport connections, unspoiled nature and beautiful beaches, Rogač is one of the most visited destinations on the island. The village has a restaurant, cafe, shop, charter agency and a gas station. Stomorska and Nečujam are small villages located east of Rogač, on the north side of the island. Stomorska and Nečujam are adorned by old stone houses and modern cottages and numerous picturesque bays. Stomorska port offers moorings for 30 boats.

On the eastern coast of the island is the only Solta's village, Maslinica. Located in the shade of pine trees and surrounded by beautiful beaches and bays. In front of Maslinica lies an archipelago of seven small islets. Maslinica is a peaceful tourist resort with several restaurants, bars and shops. In the Maslinica there is Martinis Marchi castle, which is decorated as a luxury hotel, and underneath is similar marina with 50 berths.

The coast of the island Šolta adorned by numerous beaches and bays, and most of them are situated between the high rocks on the south side of the island. The most famous bays are Šešula, Tatinja, Zaglav and Jorja. Šešula bay is situated on the eastern side of the island, near the Maslinica. Šešula is protected from strong winds and provides safe shelter from bora and the sirocco. In the Šešula there are two restaurants, Šišmiš and Šešula which offers moorings to buoys. Tatinja is one of the largest Šolta’s bays, located on the south side of the island. The bay forks into three branches, and in the middle of the bay there is a small Islet Skoljić. Right arm of the bay is ideal for swimming, and on coast of arm is a small tavern. Tavern offers and buoys for safe mooring. Afternoon continue the route to village Maslinica.
