Island Unije

Unije are the westernmost permanently inhabited Adriatic island. It is located in the Cres - Lošinj archipelago. Unije has an area of 16.88 square kilometers and a long indented coastline of about 36.6 km. North and east side of the island are rocky and overgrown with underbrush, but of special ecological importance because they are rich with flora and fauna. South and west sides of the island are flatter, with fertile Unije field and a beautiful bay.

Thanks to a good location and fertile soil, the Unije has been inhabited since the Ancient World. Unije is known as an island of olive groves with over 15,000 olive trees, where olive growing has a long tradition. The only village on the island is the Unije, on the western side of the island. This small fishing village is characterized by picturesque houses built in amphitheater structure. In the village is a small church of St. Andrew, and post with an exchange office, travel agency, shop and two restaurants.

On the Unije you can sail from the nearby marinas: Marina Bunarina, Tehnomont Marina Veruda, ACI Marina Pula, ACI Marina Pomer, Trget port, ACI Marina Opatija, ACI Marina Cres, Lošinj Marine. The island has several bays. Maračol Bay, on the eastern side of the island, is the closest to village and protected from westerly winds. Something distant bays are Podkujni and Vognišća. The island has no cars. Regular boat line sail daily from the Unije to Mali Losinj and several times a week on the island berths catamaran from Rijeka. The Unije also has a small airport.
