Zakynthos

Zakynthos is the southernmost Ionian island and certainly one of the most beautiful and famous Greek islands. Island is named after Zakynthos, the son of Phrygian King Dardanus. Zakynthos is an island of long and interesting history and has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. The specificity of Zakynthos is its diverse and interesting relief from wet and fertile valleys to the south, across the rocky and steep west coast, urban and flat east coast to the mountainous and dry north.

The main town on the island is Zakynthos located in the bay on the eastern side of the island. Zakynthos is a picturesque town full of cultural and historical monuments, restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops. 4 km from the city center is located an airport. The southern part of the Zakynthos port is intended for the mooring of charter boats. Along the northeast coast of Zakynthos lies a range of beautiful Blue caves, which emerge from the sea and adorned by a sky blue color and healing water full of minerals and calcium.

Although a relatively small island Zakynthos boasts a large number of beautiful beaches and bays around which resides the large number of sea turtles. Certainly one of the most beautiful and most famous beaches is Navagio, a beach that is one of the main Greek motives and has a reputation as the most beautiful beach in the world. Navagio is located on the west coast, surrounded by steep rocks and adorned by snow-white sand and turquoise blue sea. On the beach shore lies the wreck of an old stranded ship.
