Alonissos

Alonissos is a Greek island located in the Aegean Sea, belongs to Sporades islands. Alonissos island, along with smaller surrounding islands and islets, in 1992 declared as marine national park which makes it the largest protected marine area in Europe. The island boasts a rich and rare flora and fauna, crystal clear sea, beautiful sandy beaches and rocky coves and picturesque settlements.

Alonissos Island has about 2,750 residents who are mainly engaged in agriculture and fishing, and in recent years in tourism. The main place and port on the island is a small town Patitiri above which is situated traditional village of Hora which provides a beautiful view and the opportunity to enjoy the divine sunset. In the town there are several traditional restaurants, taverns and cafes, and the town port provides safe shelter from the strong north winds.

To the beautiful Alonissos beaches leads many trails and paths intertwined all over the island. One of the most beautiful beaches is certainly Votsi, sandy beach surrounded by cliffs in front of which are anchored lots of sailboats and yachts. Among other beaches stands out Krisi Milia, Agios Dimitrios, Vithisima and Gialia. It is said that the sea around the island of Alonnisos is one of the cleanest on the Mediterranean, and peaceful and relaxing island atmosphere ensures an unforgettable vacation.
