Skiathos is a small Greek island located in the northwestern part of the Aegean Sea, along the coast of the peninsula of Magnesia. Due to its attractiveness and excellent location Skiathos is subject to mass tourism, making it the most developed island of Sporades archipelago. Skiathos is an island of beautiful and diverse nature and since it is rich in water, on its fertile land grow mostly olives, grains, fruit trees and many species of Mediterranean flowers and plants.
The only place on the island is the same name town and main port Skiathos, situated in a protected bay on the southeast side of the island. The town was built in the shape of a horseshoe around the harbor and marina, adorned by traditional white houses with balconies decorated with flowers and narrow stone streets. The city is full of souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. In front of the town port is situated a small peninsula with the remains of the old Venetian fort. Skiathos boasts a several beautiful churches and monasteries of which the most famous is monastery Evangelistria from the 18th century situated on a hill 4 km north of the city.
That island Skiathos is truly the jewel of the Aegean Sea, proves many magnificent beaches, and the most famous and beautiful are Lalaria and Xanemos. Lalaria is pebble beach located on the north side of the island, adorned by the turquoise sea and stone arch, and it can be reached only by sea. Xanemos is sandy beach situated near the town of Skiathos, extremely popular among tourists. On the island of Skiathos is the airport which connects the island with several European destinations.
