After Genoa, the second largest town in the region of Liguria is La Spezia. La Spezia is located in the beautiful similar bay on the far east of Liguria. It’s one of the most important naval and commercial ports of Italy. Although there is little of tourist facilities to make it important tourist destination, La Spezia has excellent transport links with the rest of the region.
La Spezia is adorned with a multitude of interwoven pedestrian streets and especially attractive is coastal promenade decorated with large palm trees. The town has several charming churches, valuable museums and galleries and beautiful medieval fortress St Giorgio. La Spezia is full of lovely restaurants, taverns, shops, souvenir shops, cafes and markets. There are five attractive marinas in La Spezia which makes it very popular sailing destination.
La Spezia is starting point for a tour of National Park Cinque Terre. Cinque Terre consists of five idyllic villages located along the Ligurian Sea, protected by UNESCO, and are one of most famous tourist attractions in Italy.
